Improving Agricultural Productivity and Sustainability
We are currently developing small cooperatives in order to increase efficiency and maximise potential yields following the introduction of various programmes of crop diversification and crop rotation, which now allows the villagers to utilise the land 12 months of the year. This is an ongoing project, we are now looking into the manufacture of organic fertilizers, which should result in the cooperatives being able to sell these products in a larger market.
We have several schemes in progress at the moment in the area of irrigation, from supplying treadle pumps, to the construction of small dams to create lakes for fish farming and general irrigation. We have a brilliant young graduate working on further developing this area of our work.
Our work focusses upon the village of Chinthowa in Malawi. We care for over 200 orphans and help provide education and food for over 1,000 children from the village and surrounding areas. Our aim is to provide long term effective help in the area and we are working with farmers to create a sustainable development program.
