Thank you to the Bulkington Ladies Group who meet at the Sacred Heart Church Hall for your kind welcome to Rita and myself. We had a lovely evening and hope that you enjoyed hearing about Chinthowa Village. Thank you also for your generous donation of £50 and the collection of £41.40, the Trustees are very grateful and the money will be used for the Feeding Programme.
We feed the children daily after school with a meal of nsema which is much appreciated. However we have received some sad news, this time of year is known as the ‘Lean Time’ when the villagers are running out of food before the next harvest in March and April. Some of the elderly people are suffering from marasmus (Marasmus is a form of severe malnutrition characterized by energy deficiency. It can occur in anyone with severe malnutrition but usually occurs in children. A child with marasmus looks emaciated. Body weight is reduced to less than 62% of the normal (expected) body weight for the age.) As we are in daily contact we are able to arrange for the elderly to have the correct type of food to help them until they are better and the new harvest is in.
